“Changing how we use our own resources and how we're doing things in our own home feels like a way that we can have a real impact,” said Rick Silbert, a Rochester resident who’s been electrifying his home for over four years. Rick is among the many people transitioning their natural gas appliances and technologies to electric alternatives.
While everyone has personal reasons for making the switch, electrification increases comfort, health, and safety while decreasing carbon emissions. Electrify Everything Minnesota offers educational resources and other personalized guidance to make the transition as seamless as possible.

Wrapping up a successful 2025
Electrify Everything Minnesota was founded in 2023 to raise awareness of electrification and encourage residents to upgrade their homes. Since then, we’ve connected with thousands of Minnesotans about electrifying their homes. As we reflect on three years of Electrify Everything Minnesota, we wanted to share some of the program’s successes to date.
Program expansion to new communities
This year, Electrify Everything Minnesota welcomed four new program participants: the Cities of Bloomington, Eagan, Rochester, and Woodbury. By partnering with these cities, the program has the potential to reach even more Minnesotans. As the state’s electricity becomes more carbon-free and new technologies are adopted, we’re excited to reach more households that could benefit from electrifying one or more pieces of technology.
Reaching residents at events
Community events are a great opportunity to reach residents who may not already be familiar with electrification, who may know about it but have questions, or who might be debating an electrification project. We attend several events per year to reach residents where they are, answering questions and sharing resources. This year, we spoke to nearly 700 residents while tabling at community events and presented to over 175 more residents at other community-based organizations’ events. In total, we had 1,167 conversations with residents about home electrification in 2025.
One benefit of these conversations is that we can share more information with residents who may have specific concerns, including those related to costs. When we tabled at the Minneapolis Monarch Festival, we shared information with several people on Xcel Energy’s special electric space heating rate, which makes electric heating more affordable in the winter.
We also work with partners to develop and co-host workshops or webinars on electrification. Among the different curriculum options are “The Basics of Electrifying Your Home,” “Heat Pumps Demystified,” and “Electrifying Water Heating, Cooking, and Clothes Drying.” During workshops, attendees learn about electrification technologies, key considerations in choosing technologies, and fundamental questions to ask their contractors. They can ask questions about their unique circumstances and leave with resources to plan projects. In 2025, we reached over 225 residents at webinars and workshops.
As part of our outreach, we also spent more time with Hmong- and Spanish-speaking Minnesotans, offering our electrification presentations in Hmong and Spanish. Electrification can benefit anyone, regardless of their age or primary language. After our Hmong presentation, we received this feedback from Ange Hwang, the executive director of Asian Media Access: “Thanks so much for your support of Hmong seniors. Great information was shared, and it was a great discussion! Thank you for slowing down and being very precise; it helps a lot to relate the message to seniors.”
Updated resources to simplify electrification
Our priority is to make electrification as approachable as possible for residents who are interested, which is why we updated our website and worked with Rewiring America on an incentives calculator this year.
The new Electrify Everything Minnesota website features more resources for residents, including on-demand webinars, a guide to finding an air source heat pump or heat pump water heater installer, electrification case studies from residents, and more. Residents can use the information on the website to help them plan their projects, or if they live in a partner community, they can contact the Electrify Everything Advisors for more one-on-one guidance.
On our updated website, we also launched the Rewiring America incentive calculator with Minnesota incentives added. Now, Minnesotans can use their information to better understand the financial resources that will be available to them for electrifying. Federal, state, city, and utility rebates are included.
