The new law prioritizes water conservation and watershed health, imposes a fee on data centers that directs funds to low-income weatherization programs, and mandates that any company using sales-tax exemption must use union labor, setting a national example for data-center regulation.

For the first time, data centers coming to Minnesota will have to comply with guidelines, as well as paying for conservation projects that help low-income families. CEE provided data on the weatherization needs of approximately 290,000 low-income households that these new rules will support.
