Refrigeration systems can be the main driver of energy use in businesses such as grocery, liquor, and convenience stores. Many businesses would save money and energy by upgrading their walk-in coolers, freezers, or cases, but don’t always know where to start and may worry about the high costs of upgrading. Fortunately, Xcel Energy commercial customers in Minnesota don’t have to navigate the upgrade and rebate process alone. Refrigeration consulting, project support, and rebates are now available through CEE’s One-Stop Efficiency Shop, a free energy consulting and rebate program sponsored by Xcel Energy.

Broken or outdated refrigeration systems can lead to problems such as ice buildup, sweating doors, or loud equipment, and these inefficiencies can result in much higher energy use. By working with the refrigeration experts at CEE, businesses can identify cost-effective upgrades that make sense in the long term rather than patching systems with temporary solutions.

"Some businesses are caught up in solving day-to-day problems and simply don't have the time to think about how efficiency upgrades could save them money," said Tyson Borom, CEE Refrigeration Consultant. "In those instances, I can step in as a trusted advisor to support their projects and steer them in the right direction. Efficiency options are within their reach and will benefit their bottom line in the long run."

During a free assessment, CEE’s refrigeration team will visit the site and audit the refrigeration equipment to see if there are opportunities for cost-effective upgrades. From there, they will build a report around the measures that the customer is most interested in implementing with overall cost, rebates, and payback times. CEE also makes the rebate process a breeze by handling and submitting all paperwork.

These types of businesses can benefit from a refrigeration upgrade through the One-Stop Efficiency Shop:

  • Convenience stores
  • Liquor stores
  • Retail stores with food service
  • Schools
  • Restaurants
  • Grocery stores and supermarkets
  • Breweries
  • Golf courses
