Energy disclosure impact report: January 2020 to December 2023
Since January 2020, Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) has been partnering with local cities on energy disclosure. Today, the Cities of Minneapolis and Bloomington both have energy disclosure policies. Energy disclosure seeks to motivate single-family homeowners to complete home energy improvements by providing energy performance information at the time of sale. This information makes it easier for buyers and sellers to understand a home’s energy performance and access resources to make recommended energy improvements.
In addition to the initial energy disclosure reports, CEE provides free, no-pressure guidance to homeowners interested in making the improvements recommended in their reports. The advisors can provide referrals to high-quality contractors, help schedule bids, and connect homeowners to utility rebates, financial incentives, tax credits, and flexible financing to make upgrades more affordable.
During the reporting period, over 23,500 homes in Minneapolis and Bloomington received energy disclosure reports. In those homes, over 1,000 homes had high-efficiency heating systems installed and over 450 homes completed insulation and air sealing improvements. This resulted in an estimated $289,000 in energy savings for residents.
