Overcoming the Market Barriers for Rooftop Unit (RTU) Retrofit Enhancement

This study sought to determine market barriers to implementing retrofit technologies available for packaged rooftop units (RTUs) and determine ways to overcome them. A packaged RTU is an HVAC system that provides heating and cooling equipment packaged in a single box to fully condition a space. These systems are found on a wide variety of building types throughout Minnesota, including office, retail, industrial, and other commercial buildings. RTU retrofit technologies have demonstrated the potential to offer energy savings for a significant portion of existing RTUs throughout Minnesota.
