Tankless Water Heaters - Do They Really Save Energy?

Presented at the 2012 ACEEE Summer Study

Results from a project to assess the energy savings potential of tankless hot water heaters. CEE’s research staff installed the heaters in Minnesota homes to collect real-world system efficiency and energy data. They also surveyed homeowners to determine water heater performance and understand residential hot water use. This field research project provided valuable data and analysis of tankless water heater performance in actual homes, which helped develop new water heating test standards.
