Media: Energy auditors pay a virtual visit to home (Finance & Commerce)

The Home Energy Squad typically makes visits to more than 700 homes every month, offering product installation and guidance on energy-efficiency investments that will reduce utility bills.

Sponsored by Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy, the long-standing program has a staff of about 45 people who shepherd clients through home visits and the myriad of options and rebates they can receive for making improvements.The utilities use Home Energy Squad (HES) to help them reach milestones established in the state’s Conservation Improvement Program.

Operated by the nonprofit Center for Energy and Environment (CEE), Home Energy Squad ceased onsite visits in mid-March. The organization scrambled to develop a protocol for digital visits and then began offering them for free in April. More than 40 customers signed up...
