News: Three CEE-delivered programs receive national honor
Feb 1, 2019
Minneapolis, MN — The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has identified The One-Stop Efficiency Shop (Xcel Energy), Partners in Energy (Xcel Energy), and Home Energy Squad (CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy) as three of the country's 53 most exemplary energy efficiency offerings. All three have been delivered since inception by staff of the Center for Energy and Environment.
In a national review, ACEEE selected the Exemplary Program Awardees based on their effectiveness and innovation in helping customers achieve greater levels of energy efficiency.
“These programs are delivering energy savings that help customers reduce their costs and maintain comfortable, durable, safe homes and productive businesses,” said Rachel Gold, ACEEE’s Utilities Program senior manager.
Of the three awardees delivered by CEE, ACEEE cites the merits of each with these descriptions:
One-Stop Efficiency Shop — CEE implements this full-service lighting and rooftop unit rebate program on behalf of Xcel Energy. Small businesses "receive a free no-obligation audit, below-market-rate financing, and significant rebates. Technical assistance and any required project oversight are available from program staff throughout the project." (Category: Small Business)
Home Energy Squad — CEE implements this home visit program on behalf of CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy. The program "provides a suite of home-visit options such as energy audits (including blower door test and infrared scan), direct installation of energy-efficient measures, and additional engagement services designed to help participants move forward with energy efficiency opportunities identified in the audit." (Category: Residential Miscellaneous)
Partners in Energy — CEE delivers Partners in Energy in Minnesota for Xcel Energy, in collaboration with national partners Brendle Group and Vermont Energy Investment Corporation. The service "supports the development and implementation of community driven energy action plans. Facilitators help a community recruit a team of local representatives, then lead these stakeholders through a series of workshops to develop an energy action plan reflecting the community’s unique objectives." Minnesota is a major national leader in energy efficiency, and notably the only non-coastal state ranked among ACEEE's top 10 for state rankings. In addition to the three CEE-affiliated offerings honored as exemplary in January, CenterPoint Energy was also recognized for its Minnesota Food Service program.
“Longtime partnerships uniting the forces of CEE, Xcel Energy, and CenterPoint Energy have helped make Minnesota a national leader," explained Chris Duffrin, CEE’s president. "We're grateful to our utility partners, and pleased to be recognized with them as a key contributor to our state's ongoing progress. Strongest together, we're looking forward to many more years of great work and ongoing Minnesota progress."
Another reflection of Minnesota's enduring leadership, ACEEE has selected the city of Minneapolis to host this October's National Conference on Energy Efficiency as a Resource, the premier U.S. conference on efficiency as a utility system resource. Held every other year since 2001, the conference attracts energy industry stakeholders including utilities, regulatory commissions, state government, consultants, manufacturers, environmental organizations, consumer groups, and research institutes.
