Staff Spotlight: Chris Plum
Name: Chris Plum, Operations and Contracts Manager
Time at CEE: 6 years
Favorite school subject: Chemistry and Art History
Why CEE?: I came to CEE after studying methods for sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere, and concluding that the best way to do this is through energy efficiency — that is, by not creating the CO2 in the first place.
In Chris's words:
To me, it's CEE's research that stands out. I first learned of CEE while attending a training class for multifamily building analysts in New York City, where CEE's research was cited as the only quality work published at that time about upgrading the heating systems in older apartment buildings. I am always excited by new ideas proposed and investigated by our research staff. They are at the forefront of developing practical ways to improve energy efficiency in homes, businesses, and manufacturing sites — making CEE one of the country's only high-quality energy research institutions that isn't run by the government or a university.
At CEE, my primary role is to facilitate the work of others by helping with project planning, resource allocation, and contract management. To keep an eye on which trends or technologies might be hitting Minnesota next, I always try to keep up to date with issues in the national press regarding energy efficiency. I collaborate regularly with my team members at CEE as well as Conservation Improvement Program (CIP) staff at Minnesota's Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources, and the state's electric and gas utility companies.
Strengthened by our long relationships with funders, customers, and clients, CEE's inspiration and leadership have helped make Minnesota a national leader in energy efficiency programs.
