As a first time homebuyer, Andy Baeten knew there were some simple ways he could be saving energy and money in his home and wanted to know more. He enlisted the help the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) and signed up for a Home Energy Squad Enhanced visit. After his visit, Andy was able to replace the furnace and central air conditioning units in his Minneapolis home with high efficient models using financing available through CEE’s Lending Center.
During his 2 hour Home Energy Squad Enhanced visit a team of energy experts installed door weather stripping, a water heater blanket, CFLs, a programmable thermostat and faucet aerators. They also performed a blower door test to measure the home for air leaks, completed an insulation inspection and performed a safety check on the furnace.
Andy was impressed with the benefits of the home energy visit.
“My visit was well worth the price and very straightforward. Joel and Kyle gave me a list of prioritized improvements I could make to my home and one of the things they mentioned was a new high efficient furnace. They also gave me information on financing and rebates. Several months after my visit, my air conditioner went out and I decided it was time to look at upgrading to a new high efficient AC and furnace.”
After Andy received a couple bids for a new furnace and AC he contacted the Lending Center at CEE for information on financing the project. Because he had participated in the Home Energy Squad program, he was able to receive specialized financing for his energy improvements.
“Applying for the loan was incredibly easy. I filled out an application and submitted all of my documents online. Once I spoke with a loan officer and my loan was processed I set up a time to close the loan.”
Andy chose to go with a 96.2% efficient furnace and an AC unit with a seer of 17. These 2 new models will save him over $400 a year on utility bills.
“The financing I received allowed me to make these improvements to my home and I am excited to see a decrease in my bills this winter.”
