Martha Hewett

Director of Research

Martha is the Director of Research at the Center for Energy and Environment and has over 25 years’ experience in energy efficiency in buildings, with an emphasis on field research, technology assessment, market assessment and program design for commercial and multifamily buildings.  She has directed and conducted field research projects examining the measured performance of a range of energy-efficiency strategies, including efficiency tune-ups of commercial rooftop air conditioning equipment, steam to hot water conversions, front end modular boilers, high efficiency water heaters, gas booster heaters, and reset/cutout controls and vent dampers in multifamily buildings.  She has also conducted a wide range of other research projects, including technology assessments of commercial refrigeration and of commercial gas heating technologies, a baseline assessment of market conditions for efficient commercial and industrial gas technologies, two analyses of compliance with the Minnesota lighting code in new commercial construction, and computation of new ASHRAE design loads for snow melting systems.  She holds an MS from the University of Minnesota and an AB from Middlebury College.
