New CERT Case Study on Neighborhood Energy Services
February 2, 2012
The Metro Clean Energy Resource Team (CERT) has released a new case study about their community outreach and organization efforts in St. Paul as part of the Energy Efficient Cities project. CEE partnered with Metro CERT and the Neighborhood Energy Connection (NEC) in 2009 to implement a full-service neighborhood energy efficiency program in St. Paul.
From September 2009 to April 2011, CERT recruited 1,592 St. Paul residents at their city-wide workshops, 92% of which scheduled a home energy visit with the NEC. Their crews installed more than 23,000 individual energy saving measures, including compact fluorescent light bulbs, high efficiency water fixtures and door weatherstripping. Through these installed measures and larger home energy improvement projects completed by participating homeowners, this program saved 721,145 kWh of electricity and 136,096 therms of gas - an average of $141 annual savings per household.
